In an on-going effort to provide the ultimate in community service throughout North Carolina, here are some tips to help you and your family avoid safety hazards outdoors: |
|
- Warn your children about the dangers of playing around overhead electric lines, especially when it comes to kite flying and tree climbing.
- Before planting trees or shrubs, call the N.C. One Call Center to make sure you will not dig into a buried utility line. This number is
1-800-632-4949 or 811.
- EnergyUnited recommends that you plant trees at least 20 feet away from overhead lines.
- Never allow an aluminum television antenna to come in contact with an overhead power line. Have a professional put the antenna on the
roof.
- Look up! Some pieces of farm equipment are so tall they may come into contact with electric lines which may cause electrocution.
- Don't forget the dangers of moving aluminum ladders. Steer them clear of overhead lines.
|
|
- If you see a fallen power line, stay away from it. Call EnergyUnited or 911.
- If a tree limb or other object falls on an electric line, don't touch the object or the line. Current can flow through objects that come in contact with power lines. If you
touch it, the current can flow through you!
- If a power line falls on your car during a storm or accident and you are in the vehicle, stay put. Don't leave the vehicle until a trained crew removes the line.
- Please call EnergyUnited at 1-800-522-3793 if you perceive an immediate emergency.
